As the upcoming birth of our first born son is any day, we have been discussing the labor and delivery side of these 9 months. Looking at the term "labor" or "labour" we talked through the definitions:
1.) Labor is most associated with work. We as Americans have even set aside a certain day to comemerate laborers. When I would attend my hometown Labor Day parades as a girl, I didn't realize it was for anything other than candy. Little did I know that many millions of men and women for thousands of years have been toiling away to set up a country where I could enjoy the spoils of the holiday.
2.) Labour as it is spelled in Britain is given to a group of moles. Since we are the Moles' family and adding another little "mole" we saw it fit to establish our writings centered around our "group of moles" or our "labour".
3.) The third meaning of labor that is consuming our daily lives at this point centers around my body getting ready for delivery. As of yesterday, the doctor says I am 1 cm dilated and my cervix is about to pop like a balloon. I wish it was that easy. Corey is anxiously awaiting my labor pains....haha, yeah right! I'm nesting like a mother bird getting her home ready for her eggs and my newest best friend, Sir Braxton Hicks, is keeping me company.
What is labor? Well, it can have multiple definitions and take on many mediums but the one thing Corey and I know for sure is that our life's labor is just beginning.
